About Us

ABOUT US:

The UNL Water Ski Club is a collegiate three event water ski club that competes in the Midwest Region of the National Collegiate Water Ski Association. The club trains, weather permitting, at two sites near Lincoln. No experience is necessary! Skill levels range from first time skiers to nationally ranked, 3 event, experienced athletes.  The club trains at one of the best sites in the region, Championship Lake Estates behind a 2014 MasterCraft Prostar. The club also practices behind a 1996 Sport Nautique at Capitol Beach, a private lake 10 minutes from campus. Both towboats are university owned and maintained through a generous sponsorship agreement with Omaha Marine Center

UNL Water Ski is supported by sponsors including Omaha Marine Center, member dues, generous community support, and the ASUN (Association of Students of the University of Nebraska) through the UNL Campus Recreation's Sports Club program.

WHO WE ARE:

The club was started in 1975. The first club did not compete, but practiced at Branched Oak lake behind outboards and took trips to southern Missouri to ski in the spring.

In the 1980's the club practiced on Capitol Beach behind a MasterCraft Stars and Stripes, as well as the state's first private lake near Prague.

In the late 90's, the club skied competitively against Big 8 schools. The 90's club practiced and even hosted a tournament at the newly completed Championship Lake Estates.

The club was restarted again in the spring of 2013, skied its first competition in the fall of 2013, and since the fall of 2014 has qualified for the Midwest Regional Championship tournament every year. In 2018 the club won the Midwest Team of the Year. The club first qualified for the National Championships in 2022.

HOW TO JOIN:

Any UNL student is welcome to join the club. No experience is necessary! The club recruits at several events on campus in the fall and meets weekly during the season in August, September, and April. Each member pays relatively small fees for attending tournaments and access to practice facilities, along with purchasing personal USA Water Ski memberships

If you are interested in joining check out our social media and events calendar. The club communicates via GroupMe and our student Facebook Group  –  UNL Water Ski. You can also follow our Instagram – nebraskawaterski, our Facebook Page – University of Nebraska Water Ski Team, and our Orgsync. Feel free to direct message us!
